JAKARTA, Waspada.co.id – Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) together with religious figures from various religions will hold the Grand Action of the Indonesian People’s Alliance in Defense of Palestine. This action is planned to be held at Monas on Sunday (5/11) coming. The Chairman of the Action, KH Bachtiar Nasir, said that this event will involve religious figures from various backgrounds, including Christian, Buddhist, and Hindu.

“Tomorrow is a humanitarian action, and Palestine belongs to all religions. So we all have to move,” said UBN, his nickname, during a Press Conference at the MUI Building on Thursday (2/11).

It is estimated that the number of people attending the upcoming action will be around two million. The Chairman of MUI’s Foreign Relations Department, Prof. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, also said that religious organizations are scheduled to attend the action to give their speeches.

“We are supported by the government and have obtained permission from the State Secretariat. God willing, it will be attended by MPR, DPR, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi,” said Prof. Sudarnoto.

Sudarnoto said that the action at Monas this weekend aims to put pressure on public opinion against the Israeli occupation. For him, Israel has committed genocide and war crimes against the Palestinian people.

“Therefore, there must be important steps, public pressure. God willing, this will be an important pressure. And MUI has officially sent a letter to the OIC about the Israeli atrocities. And I also urge to bring Netanyahu to the International Court,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of MUI’s Dakwah Department, Cholil Nafis, said that this joint action shows the solidarity and condemnation of the Indonesian people towards Israel’s aggression against Palestine.

“Tomorrow we will gather at Monas, to show that the Indonesian people, government, and the people are condemning and angry about what Israel has done to Palestine,” said Kiai Cholil.

Kiai Cholil stated that this action is to condemn Israel’s recent despicable actions against the Palestinian people. According to him, these actions are a matter of humanity and no longer a religious issue.

He hoped for a response from countries that are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as well as other countries to move and help Palestine. “We voice to the world that the Indonesian people, in all layers, reject, condemn, and are angry about the Israeli occupation,” he said.

Kiai Cholil also urged every organization, whether religious or social, to attend the action. He also does not have a problem with each organization bringing their own attributes, as long as they do not contradict the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) and do not provoke.

“We don’t want any flags or attributes that contradict our NKRI. There should be no provocation,” he said.

The Secretary of the Fellowship of Indonesian Churches (PGI), Jimmy Sormin, who is also the Secretary of the Action Coordinator, supports the implementation of this Action in Defense of Palestine. He said that PGI has been a global mover in rejecting the colonization of the Palestinian people.

“This issue is not a religious issue conveyed by some groups. Even in Gaza, there is the oldest church that was bombed by Israeli missiles, and many Christian lives were lost due to Israeli attacks,” said Jimmy.

In the press conference at MUI, there were also present the Chairman of MPR Hidayat Nur Wahid, MUI’s Secretary General Buya Amirsyah Tambunan, the Chairman of Wahdah Islamiyah KH Zaitun Rasmin, and representatives from religious figures across different religions. (wol/republika/mrz/d2)
