Indonesia and France have enjoyed diplomatic relations for over seventy years, dating back to 1947. Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron was warmly welcomed in Jakarta by President Prabowo Subianto. The grand state welcome took place at Merdeka Palace, with around 3,000 students from elementary to high school levels lining the route, waving the flags of both countries. President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron arrived at the palace, greeted by President Prabowo and a ceremonial fanfare. The two leaders walked together amid national anthem performances and a 21-gun salute, symbolizing the strong ties between Indonesia and France.
Accompanied by ministers and officials, the ceremony was attended by Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo. Macron’s itinerary in Indonesia included visits to the Military Academy in Magelang and the iconic Borobudur Temple, emphasizing the cultural and educational exchanges between the two nations. Following the official welcome, President Macron and President Prabowo engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting to discuss various strategic partnerships, underscoring the deepening relationship between Indonesia and France.
