President Prabowo Subianto’s diplomatic efforts have been fruitful, as highlighted by the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) in Jakarta. The PCO emphasized that President Prabowo’s international missions have resulted in the signing of numerous memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and substantial investment commitments from various partner countries. Philips J. Vermonte, a Senior Expert at the PCO, revealed that within a short period since President Prabowo took office, 71 MoUs with 13 countries have been established, along with nearly IDR 800 trillion in investment commitments from four nations. These endeavors aim to expand market access beyond Indonesia’s traditional economic partnerships. One example is Indonesia’s recent membership in the BRICS international organization, a strategic move amid global uncertainties. This move does not indicate an anti-Western or anti-American stance, as clarified by Philips during a public discussion. He highlighted tangible achievements, such as a significant decrease in U.S. import tariffs on Indonesian products. Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to further trade negotiations for mutual benefit. He stressed the importance of considering national interests over emotional reactions in diplomatic affairs. Such strategic diplomacy aims to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global economic landscape and foster beneficial international relations.
