JAKARTA, Waspada.co.id – Partai Golkar officially supports Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka to become the candidate for Vice President (Cawapres) alongside Prabowo Subianto. This announcement was made during the National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of Golkar Party on Saturday (21/10/2023).
“Based on the meeting with the chairman of DPD last night, we have reached a consensus to propose and support Mas Gibran to be paired with Mr. Prabowo as the potential presidential candidate,” said Golkar Party Chairman Airlangga Hartarto on Saturday.
Gibran, who is the eldest son of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), was previously rumored to join Golkar in order to facilitate his candidacy as Prabowo Subianto’s running mate. Gibran was also reported to have bid farewell to PDI-P DPP Chairman, Puan Maharani, on Friday (20/10/2023).
Gibran’s path to become the vice president widened after the Constitutional Court (MK) made a decision regarding the age requirement for presidential and vice presidential candidates, which stated that the age limit of 40 years is unconstitutional as long as they have served or are serving as regional leaders.
That means the age requirement of 40 years to run as presidential or vice presidential candidate is no longer compulsory. Now, anyone who is under 40 years old can run as a presidential or vice presidential candidate as long as they have served or are serving as regional leaders or legislators. (Kompas/d1)
