Icon is a Los Angeles-based shop that is known for maintaining the original charm of its builds, and they have done it again with a beautiful 1970 Chevrolet C20 pickup truck. Despite its rustic appearance, this truck is actually fully modern. Part of Icon’s ‘Derelict’ vehicle series, this Chevrolet C20 features an antique shell with a vintage look – complete with faux patina to achieve an authentic retro appearance – but sits on a modern Silverado platform.
Inside, the truck boasts a custom dashboard equipped with features like a touchscreen in the center with a backup camera, audio system, modern gauges, and more. Not to mention the bench seats upholstered in beautiful Connolly leather and wool carpeting. The engine is a 5.3-liter Ecotec V-8 borrowed from the Silverado.
“Our biggest challenge was maintaining the soul of the 1970s while ensuring that modern and reliable technology of today still functions perfectly,” said Icon Founder and CEO, Jonathan Ward. “Thanks to our amazing team, we were able to retain the full OEM functionality of the Silverado’s CAN bus system – a great engineering feat that allows this build to be serviced like a new truck.”
Icon did not disclose the price for this special project, but attention to detail is definitely not cheap. Fortunately, this is not the only Silverado rebuilt as part of Icon’s Derelict series. The shop also mentioned that they have a second 1968 C10 Short Bed in the works.
