Indonesia celebrated its 80th Independence Day on August 8, 2025. This occasion serves as a significant reminder of the nation’s core values, highlighting that true independence extends beyond freedom from colonial rule to encompass freedom from hunger, ignorance, and underdevelopment. In line with this ethos, the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program was introduced, symbolizing a concrete step towards independence in the realm of nutrition. More than just a food assistance initiative, MBG represents an investment in the future of Indonesia, focusing on the well-being and potential of the nation’s children. Deputy for Dissemination and Media Information, Noudhy Valdryno, emphasized the program’s impact, noting the presence of the state through nutritious meals distributed to schoolchildren, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers nationwide. The initiative not only enhances academic performance and concentration but also fosters physical growth and brain development among children. Positioned as a foundation for nurturing an exceptional generation in pursuit of Indonesia Emas 2045, MBG has garnered international recognition for its effectiveness. With over eight million beneficiaries including students from various educational institutions, pregnant women, and toddlers, MBG has already shown tangible benefits. Experts have observed improvements in Body Mass Index (BMI) among children and adolescents in participating regions, as well as enhanced classroom concentration and cognitive abilities. Furthermore, the program has stimulated economic activity by generating employment opportunities through Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units and supporting local businesses that supply program ingredients. For instance, individuals like Suratina, who works at an SPPG kitchen in Yogyakarta, have not only found economic support but also a sense of fulfillment in contributing to the program. The success of MBG extends beyond health and education outcomes, emphasizing its holistic impact on individuals, communities, and the nation’s future growth.
